Day of the Kings Nerja 2020
Three Kings Day, or Dia De Los Reyes in Spanish, falls on January 6 every year. It’s the day the children of Spain and Hispanic countries receive presents for Christmas time. Also known as the Epiphany, the time when the three wise men, or, three kings visited the baby Jesus.
In Spain, on Epiphany morning you might go to the local bakers and buy a special cake/pastry called a ‘Roscón’ (meaning a ring-shaped roll). They are normally filled with cream or chocolate and are decorated with a paper crown.
There is normally a figure of a king (if you find that you can wear the crown) and a dried bean (if you find that you’re meant to pay for the cake!). In Catalonia, it’s known as a Tortell or Gâteau des Rois and is stuffed with marzipan
This is always a very exciting time to be anywhere in Spain but especially in the town of Nerja. If you are a visitor to the Costa del Sol, you will be thrilled to watch this parade, its colourful and exciting. During the parade, sweets are thrown to the children, along with small presents. The parade that starts at 5 pm makes it’s a way to the Balcòn de Europa.
Here they perform a small theatre depicting the adoration of the baby Jesus by the three wise men. From there they make their way to the town hall and appear on the balcony.
If you have never seen this lovely Day of the Kings parade, why not check out the Nerja Beach Holidays apartments, townhouses and villas.
There are many fiestas throughout the year in Nerja and on the Costa del Sol, so, there is plenty to see and do. There is bound to be something to interest everyone. Dia Del Reyes 2020, keep watching this space.
